Industrie 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution is at the moment one of the most discussed topics according to the support of complex industrial processes by ICT technologies. The goal which one wants to achieve is Smart Factory. People and machines should be assisted in the execution of the tasks by the integration and combination of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Internet of things (IoT) and Internet of Services (IoS). The doctoral college Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) explores concepts of Industrie 4.0 in the domain of productions which includes process layer, abstraction layer and physical layer. To support CPPS the OMG provides a new modeling language the so called Systems Modeling Language (SysML). The reason for providing a new standard is to meet the specific requirements of CPPS like hierarchical part-whole-structures, non-functional requirements or time-continuous activities. This talk will give an overview about the expected results and the methodology of the thesis in matters to how one can support the development process of a production from a modelling perspective with a modeling language like SysML. In addition the state of the art in that context will be shortly presented.
